FCP Reinstall Problem, Question, Confusion…
After completing some larger projects I upgraded to Leopard on my 2 processor Dual Core Mac Pro. Now my FCP screen (when it shows) consists of just some window frame lines (like title safe in the Viewer) and almost nothing else. I have dual Mac 23″ monitors and the ATI X1900 card.
So I’m going to reinstall. I’ve removed every FCP application by using AppZapper. Also looked through the libraries and removed those relating to FCP Studio apps as well.
But when I run the FCP Studio 2 install disk it gives me options to install everything except for FCP, which it indicates is already installed. What am I missing?

Martin,
Back up any pertinent data to another hard drive (projects, media, fonts, whatever).
Then you should install Leopard using the erase and install option.
THis will be the only way to ensure you are getting a ground up reinstall. AppZapper won’t work on FCP.

I can do this, but it is going to be a massive PIA, with the entire Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, iTunes, iPhone, etc on the drive.
Not to be stubborn, but there there’s got to be some file hidden somewhere that can be deleted to allow the FCP install.

Yes, you can uninstall FCP by hand, for sure. If you search for FCP uninstall on apple.com, you will get the long list of files to delete. Honestly, you are going to have a system that is unstable and won’t work quite right. After Effects does not even work with Leopard.
Really, if you want to move to Leopard, you are going to have to do a wipe and install. It’s the only way to ensure a working system, even then with Leopard being so new, there are going to be weird things going on for a while. I am not trying to make you do more work or tell you something that you don’t know, I am just offering advice as to the best way that I have found to run a stable FCP system. And that usually starts with a fresh install of the OS.

Totally wiped the drive and did a fresh Leopard install. The problem still occurred until I reset the PRAM. Now it happens about 50% of the time in FCP and occasionally in DVD Studio Pro.
I’ve got to stop what I’m doing and restart and zap the PRAM again.Still scratching my bald head on this one.

Problem is still occurring…Can anyone offer a suggestion? This constant rebooting is crazy!
