  • Sony DVW-500 Glitch frames after assemble edit

Posted by Chris Borjis on November 2, 2007 at 6:31 pm

My Sony Digibeta DVW-500 deck is doing something rather odd.

If I black the first 20 seconds of my digibeta tape and assemble edit, I get a few glitch frames after it stops (I have fcp set to output another 10 seconds of black so its not happening on the video itself)

Its about a second of frames with some gray blocks and a flash of green.

It does not do this on an insert edit.

Anyone know what to change maybe in the digibeta menu?

I don’t believe its my multibridge extreme as I can do assemble and inserts to my betacam uvw-1800 and its fine.

Do you have everything referenced? It sounds like a lack of blackburst to me.

Quit FCP then try trashing your constant frames folder.

This is totally normal for an assemble edit to tape. You will always get a clean in point but at the outpoint there will be a break in the recording, picture, control track and timecode. This will cause the screen disturbance that you are seeing.

The only way to get a clean in and out is to black the tape from end to end and then insert edit. Or of course assemble and just add as much black as you need at the end so the out edit no longer matters.

Good point, Neal. A break in the control track will always cause a jump, true. But if the glitches are happening during the black after the edit, something is wrong. If the glitch happens after the black (at the outpoint), then everything is ‘working normally’.

Yes if you are getting glitches in the black before the outpoint of the edit rather than at the out edit point this is incorrect.
What I have done before is put a single frame of slug (or any frame will do) way down the timeline after my programme finishes. This makes the sequence however long you want and gives you however much black you need after the finish of your material.
Might get you around the problem.
