    Hello all
amazing time to have a system thats completely inoperable.

I exported the FCP projecct to DV, played it back, the motion clips at the top and tail of the project had terrible flickering and one of the layers was not covering the screen fully – weird, so I restarted the system after closing all apps… and now FCP will not load. it has the dreaded Mac Dr Watson “the application FCP quit unexpectedly”

I used the fCP rescue which i understand removes the prefs which can cause FCP to crash… but that makes no difference. Other than re-installing FCP is there anything else i can try? In 20 mins im meant to have FTP’s the cut up for clients to see so I can make final tweaks first thing tomorrow… so its pretty serious.

    Help much appreicated.
    Mark.

Without knowing the specifics of your system and software, it sounds like you have corrupted media.

Take your media offline and startup FCP. It should startup just fine but tell you that your media is offline. If so, then its just finding which piece of media is corrupted. I have had this to happen a few times with DV media in the past.

Another thing… Did you repair your permissions and zap your PRAM?

    Hi there
Sorry, i have 8 core, with LHe, and Studio2.

I did not repair permissions since the crash, but IT dept did mess with my password earlier today (restarting did ask me for my password and keychain thing which i did enter)

I dont know how to repair permissions and dont know what PRAM is… please tell!

    Hi
I renamed the folder containing project and media, and FCP still did not load…

Still no joy here, I have:

    fixed permissions
    restarted system
logged in as a different user
used fcprescue to delete, resore and delete settings
    powered down and restarted system
moved all media and projects to another folder

    any ideas greatly appreciated!
    Mark.

Another folders usually not enough, especially if you have search location set. You ned to unmount the drive that holds the media and render files to confirm it’s the project file itself or just the media which is corrupted. More likely the latter, most likely a render file.

    All the best,

    Hi Tom and Peter,
    Thanks,
I did try an autosave but it also crashed.
I wasnt aware FCP would find the project/media If i renamed the folder.
I have just unmounted the drive and again FCP crashed on loading… i guess i have to reinstall FCP or the whole studio!

    Thanks,
    Mark.

First trash your preferences before you go through the reinstall process. Make sure it isn’t a corrupted prefs file. If the application doesn’t load when it’s reset like that then it’s probably time to think of a clean uninstall and reinstall. Sorry if that’s the case.

    Ta Tom,

I used the FCPrescue thingamabob, which AFAIK does remove the prefs.

I have already started a reinstall. I uninstalled FCP only, but the install is reinstalling the whole Suite regardless. God i hope this works.

    OH my god!
After a deathly slow re-install of FCP Studio 2…
    It still crashes on loading!?
    I cant believe it.
Searching the forum, it seems I had this same issue a few months back but removing the prefs worked then.
    heeeeelp….

    maybe the Aja drivers?
maybe need to reinstall as a different user?
