Final Cut 4.5 on a Mac Pro
Posted by Molle1018 on October 29, 2007 at 5:04 pmI am looking to upgrade my computer to a new MacPro, but don’t want to upgrade my Final Cut Pro software. Does Final Cut Pro 4.5 (originally on a PowerMac G4) work on an Intel Mac Pro? Thanks!

October 29, 2007 at 5:41 pmI do not think that 4.5 will run on a Mac Pro. It would have to run under Rosetta, and even if id did run, you would probably have problems.
The cost of upgrading from 4.5 to FCP6 (plus all of the other studio apps that are included) is $699. That’s not cheap, but it’s a very good value for what’s included.
If you’re purchasing through a VAR or a local, non chain store, you might be able to negotiate a package price for the new Mac, the FC Studio upgrade, extra memory, storage, etc.

October 29, 2007 at 7:10 pmI’m sorry if i was unclear. My continuing question is actually this:
Can you order a new macpro from Applestore without them putting the latest OS X (leopard)? I’d rather use FCP 6 with Tiger for now..

October 29, 2007 at 10:22 pmNothing new coming from apple will have Tiger on it, it will all be Leopard. Some 3rd party venders (even big ones like ProMax or BH Photo) may still have units with Tiger installed. If you get one like that you would just need to pay the $9.99 to get the Leopard disc. Just call around, in Nashville I know macauthority still had some Tiger boxes left the other day.
