FCP 6 – Ripple Tool behaves odd
Hello.
I’m studying Media Technologies and am now able to finally cut on FCP.
We had Avids before, from Xpress DV to Media Composer, all running on Windows.
Nw we have a new Mac, and Final Cut Studio came with it. But we’re missing a tutor. In Avid I was used to trimming by selecting the cut, hit Trim, and could choose which clip I wanted to lengthen/shorten. It worked for the A and B clip properly.
AVID:
Before Trimming:
V1: A.A.A.A.A.B.B.B.B.B.B.B.
Trimming Clip A:
V1: A.A.A.B.B.B.B.B.B.B.
Trimming Clip B:
V1: A.A.A.A.A.B.B.B.
With using FCP’s Ripple Tool I could almost manage the same.
But only the A clip was trimmed properly, the B clip symmetrically changed it’s length on both ends.FCP:
Before Rippling:
V1: A-A-A-A-A-B3-B4-B5-B6-B7
Rippling Clip A:
V1: A-A-A-B3-B4-B5-B6-B7
But Rippling clip B (for example lengthen it on the left side, where the cut from clip A is)
V1: A-A-A-A-A-B1-B2-B4-B5-B6-B7-B8-B9
or shortening it:
V1:A-A-A-A-A-B4-B5-B6
It adds/takes away the same amount of frames from the start and end of clip B simultaneously.
Is that the right behaviour for the Ripple tool?
What do I have to use instead?
Slide and slip weren’t appropriate for this task.
An help is appreciated.
