  QT Reference Movie – confusion over creation

  I am trying to create QT Ref movies and as far as i can tell have done ever by the book (or rather Manual). Its my understanding that a QT Ref is a very small file which merely points to the actual media…yet the movies that are being saved are huge ( 20 sec movie – 540mb). The source footage is 10bit Uncomp Pal.

  Just to confirm my workflow….
  highlight/mark area of edit to export.
  Export Quicktime Movie
  Name file
  choose Current Settings
  deselect Make Movie Self-contained

  Am i completely misunderstanding the process here?

  just answered my own question….

  …it seems the media i was trying to export needed rendering before saving as a QT Ref.

  also note that REF movies can only play properly if they have access to the original footage- meaning that they do not work on any other computer not attached to your storage.

  Ref movies are not for distributing content

  to reduce a clips compressed size – reduce the frame size by half then reduce the frame rate by half ( if possible)

  thats not a problem here Gary. I simply want to put speific edits into a folder so i can do a batch process later today and make a variety of mpgs etc.
