how can you tell a Sony PVM-14L5/1 from a non /1
I’m looking into buying one used but the person says they don’t see a /1 just a 1.
is the /1 on the identification plate on the back?

I’ll look on the back of my monitor and see what it says.
And yes…if you can afford a PVM 14L5, I’d EASILY choose that over an MXO/ACD option.

I was actually thinking of using the mxo to feed the PVM in another smaller edit room I would imagine that should work perfectly over HD component analog.
The person I’m buying the PVM from says they see a 1.

I’d have to so more searching, but not all the /1 say /1. It’s is by serial number.
The only difference is that the /1 can handle 1080psf24 which displays @ 48i which is the most headache inducing pain I have ever experiences. If I am working @ 1080psF I usually watch it with pulldown via the KOna.

If I’m gonna get one I might as well get the 24 frame capability even though I’ve never done a 24psf project.
can you tell me what the serial number should show if its a 24psf capable pvm?

I can’ tell. I think only SONY has those numbers.
I myself DID look at the 24p option from 1080 footage…oof. made my eyes hurt. And I know many editors who don’t for the same reason.

is it possible to see 24psf footage without the /1 (with the 60hz mode with the monitor)?
if it costs the same I’d like to naturally get every feature I can.

There’s gotta me some way to positively identify a pvm with 24psf capability.

I’m telling ya, you really don’t need that. All it does is look flickery and might even put you into seizures. I was at a big post house where the editor was in front of the huge 32″ Sony BVM, and he switched it to 24psf mode JUST for me to see it (because I bought the 14L5 and had some questions) and it was flickery. He said “I never look at that mode…you can’t. Not good on the eyes. Your footage is 24fps, but if you look at it on a 60fps signal, you see everything fine.”
That is the setting I use when editing 23.98 DVCPRO HD…I use the 8-bit DVCPRO HD 59.94 setting, and it works fine.
THERE IS NO NEED TO SEE TRUE 24psf…none. Move along…nothing to see here.

just didn’t want to buy one that didn’t and then have a need for it, but if it can be monitored (the 24psf timeline in 60hz) thats all I needed to know.
