DV tape with 32K audio
Posted by Chris Poisson on October 15, 2007 at 1:50 pmWhat is the best way to use this? It’s just a vacation tape a friend wants cleaned up and put on a DVD. FCP does not want to capture it without warnings about sync. What’s the usual drill? never done this before.
Have a wonderful day.

October 15, 2007 at 1:54 pmMight want to take it into iMovie if you have that. I’m pretty sure that handles 32k audio just fine and if you have iLife ’08 it has a sweet new interface.

October 16, 2007 at 7:49 amI do this all the time in FCP. Here’s what I do and there are no loss of sync issues afterwards:
Make a copy of your 48K sequence preset in the Audio/Video Settings menu. Then choose “edit”. In Quicktime Audio Settings at the bottom choose 32.000 kHz 16 bit 2-chan in the format drop down menu. In order to get the audio bit rate down to 12 you need to go to Audio/Video Settings>A/V Devices. Choose 4 channels instead of 2 and that will allow you to change to 12 bit and also set the sample rate to 32 Khz in that dialogue box as well. Name your new capture preset DV NTSC 12bit 32Khz. Then you’ll be able to access that preset in the log and capture window.
Works for me.
