A little confused about video cards
Quick question…or maybe not so quick.
I have a Dual 3Ghz, Radeon X1900, 4GB Ram Mac Pro. I will be editing an HD feature that has been captured to a SATA array in DVCPROHD. I am being given the drives with the footage already captured, so I won’t need to capture anything. Here’s the question:
What do I need to be able to monitor the footage coming out of FCS2? I am not doing any finishing work, aside from some mild color correction merely for screening purposes…doesn’t have to be perfect, just balancing shots a little bit here and there. The on-line will be happening sometime down the road and may or may not involve me. So, what card and monitor should I be looking at? Can I just get another 20″ cinema display or a Dell and monitor through a ?-DVI converter like the Matrox deal (MXO?). Funds are tight so I’m looking for the most basic and practical and cost-effective setup to suit my needs. I will let the next fee pay for a Kona LHe or Kona3 or IO HD or BlackMagic whatever…for now, I just need something to output the signal, not ingest it. Also, I understand from researching on these forums that, with the X1900 and the MXO, I would need a DuaHead2Go to be able to work on two monitors and send the reference signal to a third. Is this correct? Or do I need a TripleHead2Go? And, as this is really just for reference purposes, do I need the third Cinema Display or could I just an inexpensive SD monitor and have the MXO downconvert? Would that be more cost-effective?
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can send my way.
Cheers,
Trip
