This is a question that comes out of watching Shane’s dvd. I like the way he suggests projects be organized. I know Shane’s advice applies to organizing a project from its inception but I’m wondering if I can approximate this with my project which is considerably messier. I am about to bring in a 2nd editor and want to be smart about how I do this. Here’s what I’m thinking I would do:

    1. Save the project into 3 different versions according to footage type.
    2. Create an additional 2 versions of the project, 1 for each editor’s sequences.
    3. Have a version of the project which would contain all the master sequences–the combined sequences from both editors into a rough cut/fine cut.

So that would make 6 projects in all. What I’m concerned about with this is how it will affect my capture scratch folders. It may not be a problem, and may be a good thing in fact that everything we digitize from here will go into a new capture scratch folder. It should make it easier to see what one editor has digitized and potentially copy it for the other editor. But it could also get complicated.

Does anyone have any recommendations about this? I’ve gotten my project down to about 125mb but it would better if it was smaller still. Any thoughts would be appreciated. FYI, I will also post this on the Apple FCP forum as I need some answers quickly.

    Thanks,

    Loch

    Added thought:

My thinking is that I would do divide the project accordingly and then use media manager to copy the various projects over to his computer. I would do this by copying the projects 1 at a time to a firewire drive that he’d use and then connect that drive to his computer, put the project in the documents folder and trust that it would see all the footage. The computer I’m working on is a quad intel mac and he is working on a G5. Both of us have FCP 6.01 and OS 10.4.10.
