miniDV Capture problems w/ fcp 6.0.1
I am having trouble ingesting footage from the panasonic HVX200P camera into final cut 6.0.1 so i am hoping someone can walk me through the proper capture settings in that I have to ship this camera back by noon today!
Here are the settings I shot this Mini DV tape at – I inserted a miniDV tape and set the camera to FILM not Video and then 480i 60i with the Cine V scene file selected. The Aspect Conv setting is at Normal and I am not sure how to tell whether or not i was shooting Anamorphic or not.
I need to capture this footage and I have tried a few different capture settings (DV, DV anamorphic, etc.) I have no clue what setting to use but before it was giving me an error message when i selected HDV obviously now i know it is NOT HDV but at least by choosing any of the DV setting in capture it opens up the log and capture window – unfortunately i have no deck control of the camera and cannot seem to ingest it. I do however see the footage when i play it on the camera itself so i know it is there.
I am hoping i just need to correct the settings in FCP so please anyone who has some ideas and can help please respond or call me asap. 917-699-2305

It is not the FCP settings, it is the setting on the HVX-200. A little hint, you shot on mini DV and you need to capture via firewire.

what do you mean i have been trying to capture using the 4-6pin firewire this entore time – what hint?

Sounds like the settings in the capture window need a little work. First off, can you do a “capture now) function just to see if your compter will see the video stream?
second, look in your system profiler to see if the computer is even recognizing that something is attached to the FW bus. if it doesn’t show anything, there’s where to start troubleshooting. Cable, the 4pin connector on the camera is pretty fragile.
If it does show, Then it must be a setting on the camera. I don’t have a 200 infornt of me, so I can’t get to specific, but its a matter of going though every button to make sure it is in the right position, and read the manual. Most of my frustrations have been from a switch being int he wrong setting or something dumb like that. Can’t tell you how many time the other editr has come in, looked, flipped a switch and it worked. Operator error.

Thanks i figured it out – must have been a problem with my G5 at home because it works here at work so anyways i appreciate your help
