  Timeline rendering

  Hello:

  I’ve got FCP 6 and was wondering a couple of things.

  1. Do you have to have the timeline rendered before exporting it to Compressor to convert to a DVD format?

  2. If you have multiple timelines that need to be rendered can you do a batch render? Can you just hit alt R and render all highlighted timelines?

  Yes. Because if you don’t, FCP will before it sends it. It will render the timeline, then begin the export process. It will all look like it is exporting…but it will take longer. Rendering first, THEN exporting actually takes less time then having FCP render then export. It renders the frame, then exports it, then renders the next, then exports it…

  Don’t know about that…would be handy though, huh? Cause you can batch export..

  You could open all the sequences you want to render, temporarily set your auto render to like one minute and have it set to render all open sequences. That’s the closest I think to batch rendering.

  Simply highlight the sequence icons in the browser that are unrendered, do an Option R and it will render all of the selected sequences.

  Yeah. You don’t have to even open them.

  I forgot and tried to do this on an Avid recently….of course nothing happened….then I said “Oh Duh. Of course!”
