Newbie question… (replacing low-res clips with high-res)
So I’ve got a sort of silly problem.
I’m working on a project that contains both miniDV and HD-resolution clips. I’m going to be getting the miniDV footage, uprezzed, from the DP in a bit, but I’m not entirely sure if I can just reconnect the files and have all my subclips reflect this change. I can’t recapture from the original tapes (they are, after all, miniDV, and the DP is putting this through some process or another, and it’s just the way things seem to be going to happen).
Will FCP accept the different media files, and will the subclips reflect the change to the master clip?
For that matter, is it possible to import color correction from one project to another? The DP has been color correcting, but in another project, not the one we’re editing. Is that wasted, of can I get it into my project somehow? -

As long as whatever process the DP does, the timecode remains intact. SO if he color corrects the footage (which would be very odd to do BEFORE you cut it into the show, typically the color correction happens to the final output, NOT to the master tapes) that the new tapes have the EXACT SAME timecode as the originals. Then all you’d have to do is delete the DV files…or the files you are replacing, and then batch capture the offline clips with the new corrected footage.

Oh, trust me, I know it’s odd. (It wasn’t worth arguing.)
I had hoped it would work, just replacing the media files and reconnecting. (I think the logic behind the color correction was to transfer the setting without actually permanently making chances, so that it could be altered in the future.. I think I’ll just let it go without arguing the matter until we’ve got it edited and then the color correcting can actually be done productively. Sigh.)
