Time remapping 720pN footage
Hi all.
Was wondering what is the preferred option when “ramping” overcranked 720pN footage in FCP6. I liked the Time Remap option, and it works great. But it almost seemed like perhaps unchecking the “frame blending” option for the 720pN footage made it look a little bit sharper and slightly more dramatic. Dunno…maybe it’s my imagination.Any thoughts?

You haven’t mentioned the frame rate of your footage. 720pN…what? 23.98? 29.97? 59.94? You say “overcranked,” so I can assume you mean 720p60 at 59.94…but I found it wise not to assume anything, and get clarity from the source.

Sorry for the omission, Shane. I overcranked in 720/24pN at 48 and 60fps w/the hvx200.

Well, I am not a camera op, but I do know that some setting in the camera is that if you have it set for 24PN and then set it to capture 60p (Again, I don’t know how they do this…I just saw the result), when you IMPORT the footage, it is already slo motion.
But, if you shot 720p60 at 59.94, then you should use the DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter…in the tools menu….but something you install separate on the FCP install disk. In the EXTRAS folder.
But as for Time Remapping…making it gradually faster/slower…I don’t know if you can do that as smoothly as the frame rate converter converts the footage. Maybe…haven’t tried.
