  • FCP 6.0.1 Crashes on my MacBook Pro!!!

Posted by Mark Roush on September 22, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Greetings, I just updated to FCP 6.0.1 on my MacBook Pro and now my FCP won’t open. I verified permissions, unhooked my firewire drives and still, nothing.

Is this a common problem with anyone else and does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?

    Thanks!

How much RAM do you have?

    FCP6 sings on my MBP.

I have 2G of Ram… and FCP was running great before I downloaded the 6.0.1 update. Now the darn thing won’t even open and I’m in the middle of an edit!

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Not to sound like your dad but, how many times do people here
have to say NEVER CHANGE YOUR SYSTEM IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT
ESPECIALLY IF YOUR PRESENT SYSTEM IS RUNNING JUST FINE,
    before you listen?

If you backed up your system and could now revert back to
your configuration before the update, do that now. SuperDuper and an
external firewire drive is my choice for this very thing. It’s totally automatic
and can be scheduled to work while you are sleeping. And if you
did not backup your boot drive on a daily basis like you should,
now you’ll have more trouble than you need to have.

These two solid operational requirements for professional content creators
are the cornerstone of having a smooth editing situation.
Sorry if this is harsh, but life is harsh dude.

    Now, try this:
go to apple and download the update and re install.
    https://www.apple.com/support/downloads/finalcutpro601.html

See if that helps. And this time, while your machine is updating,
DO NO OTHER OPERATIONS with your computer…..NONE.
Let it set there and update. This is also a common thread
from people who have trouble after updates. They were
using their computer for many other things and this has been shown
    to cause problems with updates.

    Trash prefs?

Yeah, Jeremy is right. I’d probably try that first. Simpler solution if it works.

I just downloaded a program called FCP Rescue and it fixed the system in a jiffy. It’s a free download and now my system is running just fine.

Weird stuff… thanks for everyone suggestions! If you come across a problem like this… check out the rescue program I used.

Yes, that program trashes your preferences for you.

FCP rescue didn’t fix FCP for you, trashing the preferences did, although FCP rescue is a handy utility.
