Does the herd have any opinion on SD ProRes HQ?
We capture our shows staight from the switcher and camera’s into the computers through Kona cards. We been using DV50 as a nice compromise between Uncompressed and DV. Would ProRes give us a worthwhile quality increase?

If DV50 is a comfortable/working workflow that looks fine to you and your client, why rock the boat?

If its not broke, don’t fix it.

I came from a 10-bit uncompressed only workflow, so ProRes HQ was a welcome disk storage saver. 🙂

Yeah, but there’s always times to renegotiate the compromise. DV50 is a decent, albeit 8 bit trade off for uncompressed (can’t really hold a candle to 10bit in my silly opinion). I would go to ProResHQ for the 10bit depth at significant file reduction compared to Uncompressed, but bigger file size than dv50. There’s that compromise renegotiation.

ProRes is much better. Even the non-HQ is better.
