pan centering audio
Posted by Williebondo on September 11, 2007 at 7:28 pmJust loaded latest FCP. Can’t seem to pan center audio like I used to. I select all audio tracks and choose Modify, audio, pan center. Still seperate. What’s the secret these days. Sometimes I think Apple hired Bill Gates to update FCP.
Thanks,
Bill

September 11, 2007 at 8:49 pmYou must turn off “Stereo Pair” on the tracks.

Ok, so before you go blaming Bill Gates for messing up FCP, you should certainly master the basics of the software.
Modify > Stereo Pair.
Turning On / Off Stereo Pair is a very basic function in Final Cut Pro. So if you’re going to chastise Apple for “messing up” the software, you should at least have a basic understanding of how it works.
We do have a Final Cut Pro Basics forum better suited for questions such as this.

Well excuse me! I’ve been using FCP for a couple of years, and never had that issue. You know how updates go. There’s always something new that gets reset. Sorry I upset you. I did get the help I needed though, so I thank you for the forum.

September 13, 2007 at 4:26 amI often take a nNovia Harddrive out in the field. great little box,, can pass the tape off to whoever,, and start playing with the media right away… not to mention the time savings not having to capture from tape!
Only issue with it is when the clips are imported into FCP the audio is stereo linked with ch1 panned left and ch2 panned right. Was annoying at first,, until I set to memory a few key strokes and short-cuts
1. Option-L – turns stereo link on/off of selected audio clip(s)
2. copy/paste attribute – center pan a clip, copy it (apple-c), highlight all the others you want to centre pan and right/ctrl click – paste attributes Pan3. if it is a clip I am going to reference parts of at different times, I drag or double click clip in the bin to load it into the viewer, select the audio tab in the viewer, and center pan it there. This way every time I edit a piece of that clip into a sequence it will already be centre panned.
Cheers,
Colin

September 13, 2007 at 5:49 pmTried that. Nothing seems to fix this. What is going on? I’m thinking there must be a setting off somewhere, but I’ve checked everything I can think of. It’s driving me nuts.
