Sorry for this being off topic. I am looking at this camera, HVR-V1U HDV 1080i/24p Cinema Style Camcorder. As far as the hard drive recording 4 hours of video so they say. Do any of you use this camera with FCP ? what format are the files on the hard drive ? And what do you need to get the footage or files from the camera into FCP For DV I cauld use my deck but what abbout the HDv or HD format

    thank you of any users.

Its my understanding it works much like the firestore drive does with the jvc cameras.

So you would be getting HDV quicktime files on it.

I use this camera, but I did go with the firestore 80GB drive. They seem to be the most reliable hard drive recorder on the market. It works GREAT!!!

I usually record to tape as HDV while I’m downconverting to SD for the hard driver record. Most of the editing I do now is SD, so when I bring the footage straight from the drive, it’s already SD. But I still have the option of recapturing as HDV if I need to in the future.

You can chose the file type that the firestore records to. That is another great thing about it. I just use the quicktime codec since my editing is done in FCP.

I have saved countless hours already. I highly recommend looking at the firestore units.
