Just looking for a list of quicktime formats that support alpha. I’m working on a music video in final cut and sending each shot to motion for keying. I’m about 3/4 of the way through my video and now Final Cut is SLOW, taking about 15 minutes just to open my project, and it keeps crashing. I’d like to export my timeline so far and include the alpha channel so I can open it up in a new project without all of those motion files. I tried sending the motion projects through compressor as animation alpha but over half of the files have screwed up glitchy frames throughout. What other quicktim codec could I work in that supports alpha? Are png or tga codecs my only choice? Thanks,
    Matt

You are right. If you have lots of Motion files in your timeline, your project takes forever to open. I found that out the hard way a few months back.

Most people who need an alpha use the Animation codec….not sure why its not working for you…its pretty much the standard. Have you tried exporting them from Motion in Animation instead of Compressor? There are a few other codecs that support an alpha, like Sheer and Microcosm, but they are not free.

Thanks, I ended up just exporting out a quicktime in the TGA codec from my final cut timeline, without rendering anything first, and brought that back into a new final cut sequence and razor bladed all my cuts back in. Not a perfect solution but at least I didn;t have to render out every motion file individually.
