  • FCP 5.1.4 Project Error.

So for no reason whatsoever, yesterday afternoon one of my projects just stopped opening. It was working fine the day before but now it’s acting all wanky and I could use some help.

I get the old favorite “This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of final cut pro.” It always happens at 15% during the read of the project. So I do what one should do, I go to my Autosave vault and pull one of those. Same error. Going back four months worth – same error, exact same place during the boot.

So I’m getting a little pissed. I try another project. Works fine. And another. Also fine. Then I go to another FCP machine. Exact same set up – and it opens. So we save it off that machine, transfer it back to mine and at 15% – error.

Next – trash the preferences. Reboot, same error. Try it on another machine again, works fine.

Next – ditch all the rendered files. Nuke em all. Launch FCP 15%, error.

Last ditch effort, reinstall FCP. Update via Software update. 45 minutes later I boot – 15%, error.

I’m at the end of my rope. No ideas left. It’s obviously a file somewhere that’s seeing this project as bad and not only one version of it, all of them, even in the Auto Save Vault.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Unmount your scratch drive and try to open the project.

I tried that, same effect. It’s only for one project on one specific computer. All the other projects work just fine.

Also, when I take the project to another machine it work, no problem. It has to be something specific to this machine. And I’ve cleared half a dozen times – no difference.

Do you use any plug ins?

It isn’t the plug ins. What I ended up doing based on an email from a buddy of mine was to create a new user log in and try launching it from there. Strangely that did it. Project opens corrects and everything’s up and running. Sure, I spent 5 hours today getting all my programs set up in the new login, but I was able to work.

Hi! I am facing the same problem! I can’t open any of the auto save neither! 🙁 I can open other projects, but not this one. How did you manage to fix the problem again? New login account? As in the MacPro? I tried that, doesn’t seem to work though, and i can’t open the project file in any other machine too, and we all are running on 5.1.4. It is not connected to the net if anyone is wondering.

Help would be appreciated… If this is an april fool thing, i’m gonna nuke that person…
