  HDV codec problem, no video

  I’ve got a client with HDV files she wants to send me. She was opening files (.mov with a format type “HDV60i”, to find the right ones, but only gets audio, no video. I’ve pointed her to MPEG Streamclip to try opening with that and converting to something else, but she still can’t see the video. She’s on a Mac with the latest version of QT. Any ideas while I await more info from her? Could it be a codec not installed with QT? I don’t know, nor does she, what camera was used.

  My client just sent me this:

  QuickTime version 7.2
  dimensions are: 192×1080
  codecs: HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Indian), Timecode
  Channel count: 1
  They are all .mov files, and are referred to as QuickTime Movies.

  And she said they were shot with a Sony, but doesn’t know which one.

  she ether douse not have FCP on the computer or has a varsion that was pre HDV. The HDV codec is installed with FCP not with QuickTime

  I am betting the video was not captured on her machine

  I know that it doesn’t come as part of QT. That’s why I got her to install MPEG Streamclip.
  I thought (seemingly erroneously) that because it includes an HDV option, that
  she would be able to export to another codec in the export options.

  Nope stream clip still needs the codec to be able to work with it.
