  multiple formats in sequence. uprezz or down?

  i’m cutting multiple formats and aspect ratios in one timeline. Using FCP 2. It’s about 60 percent Varicam 720p, 10 percent HVX-200 720p, and 30 percent Viper 1920 X 1080 2:37:1.

  What’s better. To put 720p in a 1080p sequence or vice versa. Want the best look. I guess taking 1080p down seems to make most sense, but I don’t know.

  Usually it has to do with how much footage you have. Since you are 70% 720, perhaps go with that. BUT you will then be degrading your nice Viper footage.

  Do you have a KOna 3? What I would do is capture the Varicam @ 1080p, and then edit the HXV stuff in an FCP6 timeline. The KOna 3 cross conversion looks great. What frame rate is everything generally in or I should ask, what frame rate are you planning on editing in?

  Yes I do have a Kona 3 card, but I can’t recapture the Varicam footage as it’s just too much! This project is for my reel… so at first it’s going to DVD and internet (I want it to look nice) and then it’ll go to HD-DVD or BlueRay. Honestly though for now all I’m concerned about is the net.

  Everything is 23.98.

  Then stick with 720p.
