I’m new to FCP, and am trying to capture DVCPro50 Anamorphic. The deck appears just fine (Panasonic DVCPro deck) and seems to be capturing. But when I finish the capture, FCP says that it can’t accept the clip. Anybody know what dumb think I might be doing? Many thanks!

We could use a bit more info first.
What’s your system and what OS?
    Which version of FCP?
How are you capturing…. SDI through AJA or Black Magic card or Firewire?
    Which deck are you using?

Yeah, good point. Using FCP 5.1 on a Dual 2.7 GHz G5, OS 10.4.6. Capture is via firewire playing DVC Pro 50 on a Panasonic SD93. Footage is 16×9, and I’m set up with the correct settings for A/V anamorphic, and getting machine control and video through the Capture monitor. Once I start capturing, the large screen shows media being capture, and turns the small capture frame to bars. Somehow, I don’t think that’s right. Then, FCP says it can’t read the media just captured. I’ve now tried it on two systems, so I know I’m doing something dumb. Thanks for any help you can give!

In Audio/Video settings/Sequence Presets you should be using a DV50 Anamorphic setting. You should have the 16X9 box checked.
Under the Capture Presets tab, you should again have the Anamorphic Box checked.
And finally, under Sequence/Settings, make sure you again have the Anamorphic box checked.
Once you get these settings dialed in, you should be OK.
Do some research on how to set up an “Easy Setup.”
