Multiple users, same system
For about two years now, editors from the News and Promotions Departments have been occasionally using one of the Sales Dept’s FCP systems. It was set up with only one user account and has been humming along more or less happily.
Management recently decided to launch an additional newscast and give the News & Promotion editors access to that system for several hours each day. Those of us on the Sales side quickly became concerned that we lacked the storage space for such intensive daily use, so the decision was made to purchase FW drive for News & Promotions to use, to keep their media separate from Sales.
My first reaction was to create two new User Accounts, one for News and one for Promotions, so their default scratch disks can be set to the new FW drive.
The problem I am having at the moment is that the Promotions editor cannot seem to launch his existing Projects when logged in on his account.
At first, I thought this was a Permissions or Ownership issue, but after doing a little research, I deduced he could not access the files because the the folder containing all the Promotions Projects was not in the Users>Shared folder.
So I moved “FCP Projects” folder (which contains all the folders for News, Sales, Promotions projects) to the Shared folder, but he still can’t open his existing projects.
Is this a Permissions or Owner-type issue? I assume that projects created on the new user accounts will behave, but as for existing projects I’m stumped at the moment.
I’m a little out of my league here, so any advice would be appreciated.
