    Hi
I’m currently trying to multicam a rock concert with 5x 8bit uncompressed PAL streams, it seems OK with shorter clips of 5mins but large sections of 1 hr, it plays for a few secs then stutters and stalls playback. If I reduce the steams to 4 it will run.
    I’m running FCP Studio2 on a 1.5GHz G5 with 2.5GB ram and a 64 bit graphics card.
Where does the multicam draw its power from – is it, processor, ram, or graphics card?
Any comments or suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks
    David Scott

    Hi David,

You should check out the speed of your drives. 5 uncompressed streams will be needing throughput of at least 100MB/second. If your drives are full(ish) or fragmented then this may be the root of your problem.

Have you thought about doing a compressed offline edit then rediging up to full rez at the end?

    Good luck,
    Ben

    Hi Ben
I’m running an XServe with 2.5TB of which I’m using 1.5TB.
Thought about re-digitizing at a lower rez, but it took 2 days to capture the media!
    The XServe should cope?

    David,

Try doing a read/write test on your XServe RAID. Process of elimination. If you’ve used up more than half of your RAID space then the transfer rates may indeed be low enough now that it can’t support the multiple uncompressed streams you’re trying to edit with.

Go to http://www.aja.com and download their free testing software. It’s called AJA KONA System Test version 2 and I found it on this page about halfway down:
