    Hey!

    Looked at the crucial.com site.

They sell 4 GB units – which means that I could install 32 GB in the mac – according to them. ( But the apple store says the mac can handle 16 max – is this correct? If so is the limitation in the hardware or OS X ? )

Will this work? Will I benefit from it etc?

    Anyone have experience in this?
    Recommendations?

    Regards

    Becker

[Becker] “They sell 4 GB units – which means that I could install 32 GB in the mac – according to them.”

The Crucial website does NOT say that it can support 32GB. Read the fine print:

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 4096MB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.

If Apple is saying 16GB, then you should not exceed manufacturer supported memory. My guess is the system will not recognize anything beyond 16GB At this time. It will probably require a firmware or OS update to recognize anything beyond 16.

Hellow Walter Rob Art Morgan at Barefeats did try to Install 32GB In his 8 core Mac. It did work, but the temperatur in the machine did increase a few degree. It is possible to read more about it on barefeats.

Let the machine work for you. Not you for the machine
