  • Error capture 59.94-23.98

Posted by Phil Bloom on August 16, 2007 at 12:04 am

I am trying to capture HD footage using FCP6, the bars were recorded at 59.94 and the footage is recorded at 23.98. I try to capture as one clip but am having all sorts for problems. Clip doesn’t capture, or the 23.98 is getting converted.

I would love to capture as one clip and not two clips. Any suggestions?

You can’t, bars are 59.94 and there’s no flags recorded on the bars. You must capture bars, then capture the 23.98 stuff two separate clips. You only have one clip on your tape?

No there are many. We just want to have the bars with the clip to avoid any confusion in the future.

    Thanks.

How will having bars avoid confusion in the future?

No…they will only complicate matters…capture without. And as long as the rest of the footage is all 23.98, then there shouldn’t be any “cadence” issues and you can capture as one big clip.

You can capture bars, just set them to 59.94. Then switch back to 23.98. Or capture everything @ 59.94 and edit @ 59.94.

Actually the bars have no frames, but are recorded at 60fps with no flaggs- and if you capture them you will only get 59.94/ 60fps for that capture, it is an oddity of the camera
