  FCP Project File size?

  Someone told me that a project file for any FCP project should never be bigger than 20-25mb. I have a project file that is around 65mb and seems to crash more often. Can anyone confirm if this is true or would my problem be from another source?

  This is true…try to keep the projects under 30GB. TO do this break the project up into multiple project files. That is one of the strengths of FCP…the ability to have multiple projects open at the same time.

  I have a project for my footage, one for my cut, and one for music and sound effects. OH, and one for dailies.

  If you want tips on how to organize things in FCP, I am selling a tutorial DVD on that, right here on the Cow. But this advice is free.

  with rushes in one project and cuts in another you lose the ability to match back to a clip in a bin.

  also, if you copy / paste a bin of rushes and a set of sequences from one project to another you will also lose that ability (Master /Affiliate relationship is broken)

  the way to split a project is to make a COPY of the project and delete the stuff you dont want.

  having said all that, i dont think 65MB is TOO big.

  i’d work with that.
  i’d start to think about splitting it if it got closer to 90-100MB
