change notes for audio cutter
Posted by Byrd Mcdonald on August 12, 2007 at 3:38 amDoes anyone have experience using FCP and generating change notes for an audio editor. i’ve heard about a program called CHANGE NOTE ASSISTANT.
I basically need to compare my timeline and generate a change list from the changes that are occuring in our film as we continue to tweak the film.
Anyone have any experience doing this with FCP? I’m told AVID has this feature built in.
Thanks for input.

August 13, 2007 at 2:44 amI just learned about the Cinema Tools database approach. We are at the finishing stages of post, and I’ve read around that it’s incredibly tedious to build such a database at the end of post as opposed to the beginning.
I’m interested if people have used apps like Editrace. Change Note Assistant, etc, to generate change notes?.
I’m also interested in the fact that apparently Avid has a change note feature built under the hood, and Final Cut Pro does this through Cinema Tools, and if Cinema Tools can only be used to track track1 picture changes.
Wondering if anyone has developed an XML plug in as well.
Any other thoughts guys?

August 13, 2007 at 5:23 amI use Editrace for this with an EDL of both source and recut video track required. I don’t know if AVID have this facility built in as I have only ever been able to get a change list from EDLs, even when projects were cut on AVID. If the facility is available then AVID editors don’t seem to be aware that they can generate such a list.
On a project that we are audio posting now, we have had a great deal of trouble getting and EDl from the AVID as the job was Sony XDCam ingested by file transfer so the EDL was a problem to create. I am waiting for the offline suite to make the EDLs and after waiting days, they assure me they have worked it out. I would love something in the XML world but do AVIDs make XMLs? Again I don’t think so.

not sure i;d believe that.
maybe if you wer to include all keycode and ink numbers,
but i think your;wil work with jsut TC.
not sure.havent done it myself, but here’s a quick how-to:
copy sequences into new project.
select sequences, tools menu > Create new master clips
all clips used will appear in a bin
open the bin, format the columns, export a batch list,
import that batch list into CT.think that might do it, but wont promise…
however, i’ll also plug Editrace.
the beauty of that is you can use it as an ON-LINE APP.
and only pay per usage.upload your old EDL,
upload your new EDL,
get a change list back that talks to ProTools.nick
