OT: Tape Logging Software
Posted by Bryan Rawles on August 11, 2007 at 2:16 pmHello,
Can anyone recommend good tape logging software? I am looking for something that has RS-422 control, can handle hd and sd, can grab a still of the logged scene, can create some sort of spreadsheet with corresponding stills, and has some sort of export ability to final cut.
Thanks so much!

August 12, 2007 at 11:32 pmI did Google it, and there were a lot of different options, hence I asked for a recommendation.
Call me crazy but I don’t always believe everything a website says, so that is why I often look to Creative Cow, because maybe somebody has actually used the software. If you feel like it was a waste of time, then why did you respond?
Thanks to everyone for their recommendations.

Take a look at CatDV Pro from Square Box software:
https://www.squarebox.co.uk/professional.html
Not only will it do what you’ve listed, it also can create very small preview files of your clips. This not only has allowed me to keep many many hours of doc footage on my laptop for on the road viewing and logging, but also allows you to keep footage from old project available when you’ve cleared the real media off of your drives. That way you can view footage from old projects to see if it will do in a current project, albeit as a small clip. Good xml support to and from FCP as well.
May I also suggest you do a COW search for logging software, as this question comes up all the time. There are some interesting threads about it, with lots of good points about the various strengths and weaknesses of the products out there.
Regards,
David
