Am I missing something?
Ok gang…
I have a show that I need to edit and we used a couple of segments of this last year. So, instead of doing a complete re-edit, I planned to copy the old program over to my new program, captured the video and tried to re-link the video – well, it doesn’t re-link at all.
Last year’s program was shot HDV, edited IMX50. This year’s program is to be edited DVCProHD 1080i 29.97. Funny things is…. All I should be able to do is recapture and relink, right?

I’m not following you, if you recaptured, why do you have to relink? It should do that anyway if you recaptured.

If you did a Batch Capture without changing any of the names of the files, it should all simply reconnect after you’re done capturing. If you had a timeline open while doing the re-capture, you will probably have to reconnect everything in the timeline as well.

Here’s the scoop…
I did exact what I should and what Walter said. But, nothing seems to work. So, here it is again…
I have a new project that consists of footage used on another show. I copied the bin (offline footage) into my new project and batch captured it. Later, I went back to that old program and copied the two segments of the show that I wanted to re-use. Easy enough… I selected the footage to re-link, it finds it on the new volume using the same file names and nothing happens.
The Reconnect Files dialog shows everything is ok, no conflicts. When I click Ok,it should link the files, but it does nothing.

Sorry about the confusion, I apparently wasn’t thinking it through.
I see now, you have captured the copied bin and that links up as captured, then you try and copy/paste the offline segment into the new show and the clips won’t reconnect to that timeline. The best way to do this is media manage the segment into the new codec of choice (using the create offline method), bring that new timeline and bin that opens after Media Manager does it’s thing into the new project, and then recapture the new bin that is created and then the segment should link. Be sure to include handles when media managing.

copy the segment and place in new timeline. Right click on those clips and capture them. Forget about the other project and bin.

Try doing the reconnecting ONE CLIP AT A TIME.
This bug turned up in 6.0. Don’t know if it’s relevent to your situation, but worth a try.

I pretty much had to do this. But I needed the original bin, too, since this show is the entire show and last year was only a half a show.
Funny thing, though. Even though I can’t re-link these clips, if I make some of these clips offline, the clips in my bin also go offline even though I can’t re-link them in the timeline but I can delete the master clips in the bin from the timeline.

Tried it and it didn’t work.
Just had to recapture all of the clips in the bin and in the timeline. Gave me lots of duplicate files but its the only way it would work. Bummer!
