Huge problems running FCP on MacPro/Kona3/XServeRAID
My facility has upgraded one of our online suites for HD work in Final Cut and nothing seems to work correctly. First I’ll list the system specs then I’ll outline some problems.
FCP 5.1.4 (down-graded from FCP6 due to problems)
Mac Pro: 2×2.66, 5GB RAM
AJA Kona3
Fiber Channel Card
XServe RAID 3.5TBSo some of the issues have been:
-constant ‘out of memory’ prompts
-frequent ‘unexpected quit-outs’
-losing renders on restart
-clips linking to wrong media (throughout project)
-XSERVE RAID HAS PITIFUL READ/WRITE SPEEDS! (can’t digitize to it)
On an AJA Kona System test set to: 1920×1080 8bit @ 1GB file size the results were: Write: 98.9MB/s; Read 207.9MB/s
-in short this system is NOT performing like a professional editing system.We’ve tried many things, but I’m sure there are some things out there that we haven’t tried yet. My bet is that everything isn’t configured to work together correctly, if anyone can point me in the direction of some lit or anything I would supremely appreciate it.

Did you install the Kona and Fibre channel card in the right slots and configure them? Check this out for more info: https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304122

When you downgraded from FCP 6 to 5.1.4 did you uninstall the version 4 Kona driver and re-install the 3.4 drivers? Version 4 is ONLY for FCP 6. Keep in mind you need to run their uninstaller to make sure all the old components get removed before you install the 3.4 drivers. You need to install the drivers AFTER you install FCP, not before.

Kona card in slot 3, Fibre card installed in slot 4
Choose the 2nd option in the Expansion Utility
