Downresing from HD to SD
I’m working on a documentary-style television spec, and there’s a lot of shaky camera work, and unwanteds like the boom frequently get into the shot. We shot using the Panasonic HDX-900, in 720p HD and what we’re thinking about doing is using Final Cut’s new motion stabilization to help deal with some of the shaky camerawork, as well as cropping the frame and then blowing it up to get rid of the boom when it shows up in the shot. My understanding of Final Cut’s motion stabilization is that it also crops the frame some as part of it’s process.
Ultimately, we need to deliver an SD DVD to the network for the spec screener and so I don’t really care about the resolution I’m going to lose from the cropping and blowing up, since I’ve got a bunch to spare, but my question is this:
When I downres my file from 1280 x 720 to 720 x 480, what will Final Cut do with the shots containing different resolutions? If I have three shots contained within the entirety of the piece, one that is 1280 x 720, one that is, I don’t know, say 1152 x 648 (not sure if that is even possible, but you get the idea…), and one that is 720 x 480, once they’re all brought down to SD, will all three shots now be 720 x 480, and will they all look the same? Or will you be able to tell that some were cropped and blown up, and some were not?
Thanks for all the help.
