  backup location issue

  i do my project work with the files on my desktop and i back them up at the end of the day to my external drive. this morning i didnt have my drive plugged in and when i started up the local project, it gave me a bunch of missing file warnings. all the files that the project needs are in the same folder as the project file, but it was referring to the drive to where they had been copied as a backup. i would have thought that it would look for the files that were relative to the location of the project file, not off on other drives. anyone had this experience ?
