Sony DR60 captured in HDV convert to DV
I have a client that wants me to capture her wedding at the ceremony and display it at the reception. The only quick solution I can come up with is to use a sony DR60, edit it on a laptop and then display it via quicktime.
The only question I have is can you capture in HDV and convert the files over to DV quickly? The display would be a projector via the DVI out of the laptop. Since the projector is not HDV Id need to convert to DV.
Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

That is not going to happen, the files do not tranfer in with FC,
they need to converted first and you don’t have the time. You might be able to record hdv to tape and record dv to this m60 or a firestore to do the quick edit. You need to test this.

First off, are you going to edit the footage before you display it? If not, you’re better off running it off of a deck or camera.
If you are going to edit the video, then show it at the reception (which is called a “Same Day Edit”-in the Event Video business), you’re on the correct track.
I skipped over HDV, but I’ve done the Same Day Edits, and even if I told you that you ‘could’ render the file out fast-you’d still need to check for yourself BEFORE the wedding. The last one I did, I was using DV and even then, it’s really tight to knock out a fast edit. I added one motion picture for the opening and thought it was going to take forever. Point is, you’re going to need all the time you have just to edit, so you don’t want to wait too long for the video to render.
Also, keep in mind you’ll need to run a mini audio out of your computer to a PA for sound. I use QTPro and “present’ the video through that.
