Anybody have an opinion on what is the best to use for general editing and for creating DVDs? I see that Premeire comes with Encore to create DVDs but Final Cut express needs
another program (iDVD or other) to author…

I am starting a Masters program and have to make a choice on what to use, now.

I currently use After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
    I’m on a Mac.

    Thanks for the input.

Well, iDVD comes FREE with your Mac, so there isn’t an additional cost. But if you are comparing Final Cut EXPRESS to Adobe CS3 (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)…then you are comparing a VW Bug to a Porche. You’d be better off comparing Final Cut STUDIO to CS3.

    Final Cut Express – $299
    Adobe CS3 – $1699

BIG price difference…But against FCS 2 ($1299) it is more comparable.

CS3 is a fine suite…and cheap for you to upgrade to ($699) as opposed to spending $1299 to get the comparable Apple suite.

Well if your not gonna use FCP Studio for commercial purposes, you might want to take a look at buying the education version since your using it for school. only $699 on apple education. i think the same applies for Adobe CS3, but not sure.

    hmm… I wonder what this button does…

Final cut is more stable than premiere.
