    Trying to dig in DVCProHD,
But once the media is in the bin it says it’s Uncompressed 8 bit. When I try to drop the media on a timeline it wants to change the timeline to uncompressed 8 bit.

Just noticed under the Capture settings that the digitizer is listed as DVCPOR HD “missing”.

Somehow my FCP is randomly changing between DVCPRO HD and Uncompressed 8 bit.

Describe in more detail how you’re capturing your clips. Are they from tape, P2 cards, hard drives, etc. What version of FCP are you using?

    OK, thanks . . . .
Capturing from DVCPRO HD deck via firewire into G5 (newest version of FCP). Capture presets are DVCPRO HD all the way. I manage to get a batch digitized and in the bin it said the clips were DVCPRO HD. Then, randomly, the next tape I logged and digitized, the clips claimed they were 8 bit uncompressed. I checked the capture presets and the Digitizer is listed as “Missing” DVCPRO HD. Could the Kona be conflicting with FCP ?

If your capture preset digitizer says “[Missing] DVCProHD”, it means you have set the capture input to DVCProHD via Firewire, but the deck is not connected at the moment. If you’re set to capture via Firewire, you’re not going to capture 8-bit uncompressed.

The only way you’d get 8-bit UC is to have an analog or SDI connection through a capture card such as Kona and having set the capture digitizer to one of the Kona presets or a custom preset.

Could it be that you used an Easy Setup that set the capture to one of the Kona presets for one session? If your deck has all the connections hooked up, including RS-422 deck control, you might have missed that. That’s the only explanation that comes to mind at the moment.

What you need is a custom Easy Setup that specifies DVCProHD over firewire for capture and your Kona card for output.

Tom . . thanks for that post !

I do have the Kona 3 hooked up via SDI. What I don’t understand though is that the deck always remained connected via Firewire. Purhaps the Kona over rules the deck ??
I’m still little baffled but it’s working now . . I just hope it stays that way.

No, the Kona does not overrule Firewire.

My guess is that you’re not using an Easy Setup, but just going into the Audio Video Settings and making your own.

If you want to capture DVCPro HD via Firewire – choose the DVCPro HD 1080i (or 720) Easy Setup.

If you want to capture DVCPro HD via HD-SDI through the Kona card – choose the AJA Kona 3 1080i (or 720p) DVCPro HD Easy Setup.

    Hi Walter,

I’ve done it both ways. What I don’t understand though is when i do the easy setup, then go into audio/video settings . .make a duplicate of the cature settings (so I can edit it) it still reads that the digitizer is missing. It’s working now. I heard from AJA that QT 7.2 is a little buggy.

    thanks
