  …on offline in FCP. I’m working on a project to ultimately be mastered on HDCAM 29.97 via an online Avid Nitris DS, but my source materials range from new XDCAM HD down to archive from digibeta and even some from VHS in various PAL/NTSC variations. Whilst it may sound a bit wierd, I’m offlining it all in XDCAM HD so that the offline previewing for the client can be shown on HD screens (as they requested) and also so that the XDCAM HD 29.97p shot interviews can be seen full resolution.

  I know this iis not the most efficient way of offlining, but I wondered if there was a good reference text I could refer to in the future.

  HDCAM captured as XDCAM? Never heard that one before. Typically people capture higher end HD formats as DVCPRO HD. That way you have smaller files and the ability to view files in an HD format.
  With the aid of a capture card, of course. Gonna have to have one to capture as DVCPRO HD, and to send the signal out to the HD monitor.

  So it was shot on XDCAM and uses archival footage from digibeta and VHS? Then you’re going to make a HDCAM master that will go to the Nitris?

  If you transfered the XDCAM footage over firewire, maybe the best thing to do to “ONLINE” your project is to change the sequence settings to ProRes and render it. Then layoff the HDCAM master. That might work well for you.
