Laying to Tape- Firewire transfer vs. Internal HD storage
I am currently running a large project off an external fire wire 800 drive and I believe the problem is that my computer cannot transfer the large amounts of data fast enough, as it always drops a frame half way through the output to DVCAM
In your opinions, If I transfer a bulk of my media onto my internal hard-drive will it make much of a difference in laying to tape now that that data doesn’t have to be transferred over fire-wire?
I’ve got a G5, 4 gigs of ram, dual processor.

In your opinions, If I transfer a bulk of my media onto my internal hard-drive will it make much of a difference in laying to tape now that that data doesn’t have to be transferred over fire-wire?< You'd need to figure out what frames are being dropped. Are they always in the same place? If so, you migth have drive media issues at that point or the files are hopelessly fragmeneted (not likely) or adjacent clips are just too far apart on the drive platters or you haven't gotten everythign flattened yet. We always export a self-contained movie before printing to tape. Even 90 minute DV clips have gone out the FW poprt fine. wait. Have you connected your drive and yoru deck to the same FW port? bogiesan
