Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy saving copies

hey guys, this is a very basic question but at the end of each session i like to keep a back up copy of that session , and i was wondering, what is the best way to do so? i’ve been using the save as option and name each project with the date of that day (in addition to the title it self, so if the project is called “title” i would save it as “title14_7”
but I’m sure this is not the best way

    any suggestions?

I’m sure that many people have there own good ways of doing this, but I like to keep it simple, without renaming, as I find that’s overlycomplicated.

I have three primary directories to which I save projects. I’ve copied shortcuts to them to left side of the Finder window, you know, under the shortcuts that Apple puts over there (Desktop, Movies, Pictures, etc.)

#1 is the shortcut to the directory on my system drive where I save every FCP project folder as I’m working on it.

#2 is the shortcut to the directory on my 2nd internal drive, which I use for all kinds of miscellaneous stuff.

#3 is the shortcut to directory on another computer on my network.

At the end of each day, I simply copy the FCP project from the directory on my system drive to the directory on my aux internal drive, thus always giving me a backup of the previous days work on a separate drive.

And, at the end of the week (or whenever I feel the urge), I copy everything FCP over the network to the directory on the other computer, thus giving me a back up archive of all my work in a safe place off of my main computer. Finally, that archive gets backed up to DVD or CD about once a month and stored safely offsite.

Yes, drag and drop is all there is to it…
