Can’t get past first install disk for FCS 2
Posted by Mike Debbie on July 12, 2007 at 2:30 amWhat a pain in butt it’s been trying to install FCS2. After doing all the software updates needed, my eject button stopped working. Now the keyboard command to eject a disk has suddenly become Option+eject. Weird. But now i’m starting to realize that i can’t install FCP 6.0 until i upgrade to 5.1 first. Is this true?

Thanks. I was wondering why my eject button stopped working.
I don’t know if you have to update to 5.1 first. I would try removing FCP altogether and installing from scratch. Just make sure you have your old serial numbers handy.

July 12, 2007 at 7:15 amCould be something wrong with the DVD discs. Try ripping the culprit disc to a DMG file and mounting it.

July 12, 2007 at 8:49 amHey MD is your problem, that disc one says finished 100% but nothing happens? If so leave the room make a pot of coffie or your favourit bevearaged and return. It takes a few minuts from it tells you It is at 100% until it actually finishes the discs. I realised that then upgrading to FCS 2 last week.
Let the machine work for you. Not you for the machine

July 12, 2007 at 12:23 pmNo, it’s not even getting that far into the install. I get to the point where i decide which programs in the studio package i want to install. However, most are greyed out because it says i need to update the previous studio software. All i need for now is FCP 6.0. I’m running 5.0.4, and can’t find an update that’s not 5.1 and $.

Interesting! Whn I installed FCS2 on my Quad G5, I completely backed up my earlier version of 5.04 to a Firewire drive and reformattted the boot volume. I then installed the entire package and when it aksed for serial number it first aske for the new serial and then the one from Final Cut Studio 1.
What computer are you installing to? I would suggest that you NOT try installing the new FCS2 over FCS1 and don’t forget the requirements of 10.4.9 and Quicktime 7.1.6 as minimums.

July 12, 2007 at 3:36 pmI did the OS update to 10.4.10, as well as QT to 7.1.6. It sounds like if i don’t have the install discs for FCS1, which i don’t, i’m screwed (trusty colleague took a walk with them and never came back). Can i completely remove FCS1 from the boot and install a fresh FCS2, or is the FCS1 gonna haunt me?

July 12, 2007 at 4:56 pmJust wanted to clear my wording. The install setup is asking for an UPGRADE to a later version of FCP 5.0.4, not an UPDATE, which is what i stated earlier. Still at a freeze with no clue what to do.

I am not aware of the necessity for 5.1 update before installing FCS2. As I mentioned, my experience was with erasing all content and reinstalling MacOS X 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.3 before installing FCS2. At the time when it asked for serial numbers, I put in the new serial for FCS2 and then it asked for the serial from FCS1. When I had updated from 5.0 to 5.1, it still used the same 5.0 serial number.
You should not even have FCS1 on the same disk when installing FCS2.

July 12, 2007 at 7:27 pmWhat version of upgrade did you purchase? If you bought upgrade from Final Cut Studio and don’t have it, you need to purchase upgrade from Final Cut Pro or Production Suite.
