  Error:Out of Memory !!!!

  now i’m getting concerned…..

  FCP has just decided to corrupt my current project. It began by showing a red screen and words along the lines of Restart window to view material…which i did, only to be told Error:Out of Memory.

  I now cannot open the project, the autosave vault doesn’t have a copy any more recent than yesterday, even though i have been working on the project for the past four hours.

  I can open other projects, but right now that is no help. I have tried rebooting, repairing permissions, trashing prefs, FCPRescue….and now i have no idea what happened or how it can be fixed.

  any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

  forgot to add:

  FCP2 (latest updates), OS10.4.10, Quad G5, 4gb ram, Xserve raid, 10bit Uncompressed Pal SDI.

  Hi
  Open a new blank project, then try to get the old corrupt project to open from the FCP File menu Open command.
  If it does then Copy any Sequences that can be opened to a new Sequence in the new project.
  Most likely a Sequence may not open or crash everything.

  In which case repeat the procedure, but maybe you can Export a QT movie from that dodgy Sequence without opening it (or from part of it with Sequence In/Outs set). That would give you a record of your edit decisions, if you have to bring an old project up to date.

  But! Somewhere in your movie or still assets you’ve probably got a corrupted QT file, or still image.
  Working your way through all your captured movie with QT Player may show you which one it is. Ditto Photoshop for stills.

  If you find anything dodgy trashing it may allow you to be able to open your corrupt project far enough for the Copy-into-New-Project strategy to work.

  Last time it happened to me was in a QT movie made by using Macromedia Director to export its animation to QT. Reexporting/recompressing that dodgy movie in QT Player Pro recovered it for me.

  Having just read Jason P’s General Error Blues thread nearby I realise I forgot the ‘unmount all media drives, and try to open the dodgy project with everything offline’ step.’

  Hi Paul,
  thanks for the reply… i just realised reading your reply that i was inaccurate in my description. Its not the Project thats corrupt but a Sequence within a Project.

  I have rebuilt the sequence from an earlier version, and re-graded, re-edited etc. Basically redone everything i did this morning prior to the problem. It all seems to work fine now.

  Once the edit has been approved and layed off to tape, i will try your suggestions but at the moment i’m going to avoid doing anything to any media.
