I have some great footage that I want to put on youtube but don’t know the best export settings to use. I am not getting good results with the mpeg4 setting with compressor. Any suggestions woud be greatly appreciated.

Check out Aharon Rabinowitz’s article titled, “How to preserve detail in mini-movies” in the march/april 2007 Cow Magazine.

He covers it in great detail.

YouTube is just going to compress your video again; I think their max is 100mb, right? I would try to get as close to that ceiling as you can. Your first obvious cut should be the frame size, since people are going to be watching your video at half size, at best. Once you’ve cut that down, try for the highest data rate you can and still come in under 100mb.

There is a helpful article on Kenstone.net about encoding for YouTube. I don’t recall if it talks about already adjusting settings in FCP, but it helps in using Compressor to at least play around with to get into YouTub specifications.
