FCP 6 & ADVC 300-do you have to close capture window to play out to external monitor?
It seems that to see footage on an external monitor when playing from the viewer or timeline I have to close the capture window. This is killing me as I need to quickly move between capture and playback continually. Any ideas on a work around that will allow me to keep the capture window open while playing out footage to an external monitor through the ADVC 300?

You probably need to change your workflow. There is no way FireWire can pass video bidirectional, which is basically what you’re asking it to do.

Try running a composite out of your deck to a small monitor or TV. There are a boatload of small ones that work great for this. I have a little 7″ Coby for this which only cost a hundred bucks at B&H. Also helpful for editing rough cuts, as I don’t have to change my view up to my big monitor until I need to see something critical.

To clarify Tom, I’m not trying to do these things simultaneously.
Once I hit escape to end capture I want to open my new file from the project window and start it playing in the viewer. When time to capture again I need to be able to go back to the capture window without having to open it up again. I know its only a couple of seconds but they are crucial to my workflow.
I know you can leave the capture window open in Premiere and someone tells me Media 100 Producer as well.
