  Moving project between computers

  I have FCP 5.1.4 on both my Mac G5 system and my Powerbook G4. What do I need to do to be able to move projects between both computers? Let’s say I digitize all footage on my G5, then go off into the field and want to edit on my laptop. I need to output to tape from my G5.

  Do I just save the media and Project to my firewire drive? If so, how will that impact the original project on my G5. What pitfalls do I need to be aware of? Thanks much

  Put your project files and capture scratch on your external. You’ll need to have all your render files on your external drive as well. Then, when you go back to your G5, just open the project file that’s stored on the external.

  In other words, don’t store anything on the computers. Use external drives.

  And make sure that you keep constant backups of your project file somewhere other than that drive!

  If you’re shuttling this drive back & forth, there’s a bigger chance that the drive will crash. If that happens, you can always re-capture your tapes, but it’s much harder to recover your project file. Your last autosave may be on a different computer.
