Codec
Hi,
I shoot time-lapse using stills cameras with timers. I’m just about to recut my reel, and I have a new(er) system to play with:
Dual 2ghz G5
4 GB RAM
FCS 2 – and what a marvellous thing that is.Now, out of Shake (resizing, rotoscoping), I store my timelapse footage as best-quality 1920×1080 JPEG image sequences – apart from chromakey stuff, which is RAW. This is so it can be converted to whatever video format and framerate a client might want.
Previously, I’d make DV quicktimes to edit a reel with – partly because my old G4 used firewire through a camera to monitor, partly because that’s about all it could deal with. But now I’d like to recut the reel; time to recode all the sequences.
Any suggestions for a good codec to use? Libraries that have my work usually swear by photo-jpeg. I’d like to use Color and have as much latitude as possible, but isn’t everything squashed by JPEG already?
Any point in using Prores 422?thanks in advance, Robbie
