  • difference in aspect ratio exporting direct to compressor or to quicktime first

    HI,

when exporting to DVD ive used following two methods: send to compressor from FC and export Quicktime refference movie and then encode in compressor afterwords.

when i export direct to copressor it takes more time (has to rerender everything) however the display in DVDSP is correct: in simulate 4:3 mode it displays black in top and in bottom (my video is 16:9)
however when exporting to quicktime first: the display in DVDSP is not the same…
If simulate is set to 16:9 its ok, however with 4:3 (pan scan or letterbox) it cuts off left and right side of the image…
and this has been the result on some of the TVs Ive tested it on as well…

So is there a way to tell the quicktime way of doing it to behave like send to compressor way???

    Andrea,
I think that you have to set DVDSTPro properly. You can see the aspect ratio of the .m2v file that Compressor generates very easily, Just open in the Desktop a folder that contains a .m2v and click one time on top of the file (the color ball will run for a few seconds). The small preview window will show the real aspect of the MPG2 file( this do not happens with the .mov files that are all shown 4×3).
Then when you bring the file to DVDSTP make sure that 16×9 is checked in the inspector.
    Cheers,

    Hi, Rafalaos,
thank you for your answer however the aspect is correct on preview in finder, and inspector in DVDSP says video is 16:9.

    Any other ideas?

    Andreas
