    Hi Everybody,
I’m starting a project next week for a client who has aquired massive quanitites of footage as HDV (1080i, I believe), though the final deliverable is standard def 16:9 (with the idea that it could be “upgraded” to HD in the future). I’ll be editing with his new FCP setup, a Mac Pro with FCP 5, a blackmagic decklink card, a firewire 800 drive for media and a rented HDV deck.

I understand that capturing and editing in HDV is problematic, (with MPEG compression), and I know we’ll be treating these images (color correction, compositing in After Effects, etc.).

So the question is, what’s the best way to go:

    1) Capture as analog component SD from the deck (I’ve read about a process where you use firewire for deck control).

    2) Capture HDV via firewire and then down res it all within FCP to standard def, either as DV or DVCPRO50.

    3) Something else I haven’t thought about! I’m a little leary of using the new Pro Res 422 just announced, as it’s new and unproven and this project has to wrap in just a few weeks.

    Any thoughts??
    Thanks!
