    .Mac

You can’t get much better than dot Mac. It is just $99 a year ($89 at Micro Center) It starts with a Gig of space and you buy more as needed. It is a little confusing at first but it works.

A local University (Big, Big) was supposed to put my College of Ed clients video on their web site/server for download. They got IT guys by the herd and they have yet to do it. So I got tired of waiting, got a dot Mac account and had a URL address for the video download on my clients desktop Monday morning. It was a long weekend but I got it done. And it is pretty cool when your client shares the applause from his bosses who he forwarded the url to.

You just have to remember that older PC’s (windows) is not as friendly with pictures and video and large downloads as Macs are. Something about viruses and Trojan horses… 🙂

Creating a website with iWeb on the mac is easy, then you cam publish to your .Mac account with a click of a button. Then just purchase a domain name with a place like godaddy.com and have it automatically forward it to your .Mac domain name, and also have it mask the name so that people see your domain name.

    Host it yourself.

All they need is a fast internet connection and the newest version of quicktime. Viruses, Trojan horses (which is a type of virus) and spyware can effect ANY windows computer old and new. They can slow the entire computer down, but like I said they can effect ANY windows computer old and new.

.Mac is one of the worst places to host videos. They limit the download speed. Get yourself a regular old host like lunarpages.com and you’ll get gigs of space for $8 a month including a domain name for life. They’re fast and their support rocks. 1-800, email, chat, supprt tickets, you name it.

You just need to understand how to make a basic web page.

Vimeo is very nice and it’s free. Also, check out Our Stage, they have monthly competitions for cash, and at the very least, free t-shirts.
