  • Upgrade from 5.1.2 to 6 question

Posted by Zack Hill on May 25, 2007 at 11:57 pm

I have finally finished a big project in 5.1.2. I have not upgraded to 5.1.4 for fear of hurting my current project, but now am ready, so my question is, do I need to upgrade to 5.1.4 before I go to 6?

PS: Anyone have any issues with updating a project from 5.1.4 to 6?

    Thanks in advance

NO need to upgrade to 5.1.4 first. You can go straight to FCP 6. you can go from FCP 1.25 straight to 6 if you had to.

Just pay heed to some of the weird stuff that’s been reported on multiple forums in here. Speed changes in your timeline might go wacky, some folks have said all speed changes revert to something like 50% slo mo. Some filters may have changes in them as well.

If you’ve got a project about ready to finish, I would not upgrade to 6 until you’re done. That’s what we’re doing here. I have a 30 minute documentary full finished and ready to master as soon as the network approves the final cut. We’ve had Studio 2 sitting in the shop all week and I only installed it on my laptop just to see if a few of the bugs I wanted fixed were.

Ah, just re-read your post, I thought you said you were ready to master and wanted to upgrade. But if you’re done with the project, upgrade away and have fun!
